About Zhongli

Zhongli is located in Taoyuan County in the northern of Tiawan. It became a city before Taoyan City, the county seat of Taoyuan County. Zhongli is the second most populated city among county-controlled cities. The city is the basis of the Jungli Incident, one of the most significant democratization movement events in Taiwan.

Last years a lot of foreign workers have moved to Zhongli, duo to the heavy industries in the suburbs of the city, making it a center for foreign laborers.  Especially the eastern side of Zhongli is occupied by industrial factories. In the Zhongli-Neili Industrial Park are 480 companies located, including electronic, metal, chemical, mechanical, food, textile and plastic manufacturers.

The city is centered around the TRA Zhongli station, which is the 3rd busiest station of Taiwan. The Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the beggist airport of Taiwan is just within half an hour driving of Zhongli.

Climate
The Zhongli climate is warm and tempereate. The average annual temperature in Zhongli is 15.8 °C. The warmest month of the year is July with an average temperature of 24.9 °C, in contrast with 5.9 °C in January. Especially during the months July and August there is a lot of rainfall, respectively 341 and 367 mm.

Interesting facts

  • Zhongli is not always spelt consistently. It is also spelled as Jungli or Jhongli and is former known as Chungli (spelled as Tionglek or Tiongliek).
  • Zhongli is called a paradise that combines Natural and man-created advantages, because of the Shihmen Water Dam.
  • While Zhongli don’t attract a lot of Tourist, a lot of them will visit the city duo the location relative to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

Top three activities

  • Jungli City Library, four floors of books, allowed to be borrowed for a month.
  • Zhongli Xinming Night Market, one of the largest night markets in the Taoyuan County area. It’s possible to get a full dinner on a very tight budget.
  • Visit the Longgang Mosque, the fifth mosque which was built in Taiwan and completed in 1967.
